A VIEW FROM THE TOP

April 2010

FROM THE PREZ:

Darn!  Earlier this week was the first day of spring.  Now its not that I dislike spring, summer and fall, it’s just that there isn't that much of an opportunity to ski during those seasons.  So while everyone else is rejoicing the arrival of spring, my reaction is not quite as enthusiastic.  Thankfully I have one last fling on the slopes planned this spring.   Saturday a group of ten Kittyhawkers are leaving for Banff, Canada.  I've been packed since last Sunday.  The weather reports on the resorts would indicate that there may very well be some shirt sleeve skiing in the forecast.  The long term weather report indicates a good possibility for snow next Tuesday.  That would be a welcomed gift; they got a lot of snow early in the season, but have not had much lately.  A good covering would make for smoother skiing.  With the weather starting to warm, I still have my concerns about that bear that keeps haunting my dreams.  He seems to be getting closer all of the time. As those of you who have followed our trips know, we are staying at the Banff Springs Hotel, which was built by the Canadian Pacific Railroad in the 19th century as a destination resort to encourage railroad ridership.  It’s located at the edge of Banff National Park, which is comparable to our Yellowstone National Park.  The hotel has a 4 star rating.  Yes, I'm asking the same question that you are asking why a classy place like that would let me stay there.  One of the benefits of being a Kittyhawker!  Go with a group and you can just slide in under their radar.  I must admit that I look forward to investigating this historic hotel.  Will let you know my thoughts in my next message. Next club meeting is our elections.  I'm sure there will be more about that elsewhere in the newsletter, so I won't dwell on that.  We have a slate of officers, but are still looking for a Vice President.  If interested come to the meeting and express your interest.  As my two years come to an end, I reflect on where the club as gone and where it is headed, but more about that in my next message. For now I just need to get my three dogs all sent for the dog sitter to come in and take care of while I'm off to the slopes!
