2009 WINTER TRIPS

PUBLIC NOTICE: Change of Rules

AIRPORT X-RAY MACHINES CAN FRY YOUR FILM
(From NATIONAL SKI CLUB NEWSLETTER)

Your ski trip photos this winter could end up just fogged film unless you pack carefully. Tighter security at airports could mean bad news for folks who pack film in checked luggage.

The new high-intensity x-ray machines used to scan checked luggage can ruin photo-sensitive material. The matter is serious enough that Eastman Kodak has agreed to provide warning signs for use at airports. Kodak’s website has this warning: “Never pack unprocessed film in baggage that will be checked. The new high-intensity x-ray machines will fog and ruin all unprocessed film of any speed whether exposed or not.”

This warning applies only to the newer machines used to inspect checked baggage and doesn’t apply to the machines than scan carry-on bags. The radiation from these machines won’t damage slower speed film unless repeatedly scanned. Federal rules still allow passengers to request a hand inspection of photographic material in order to avoid passing through x-ray machines.

ATTENTION WESTERN TRIP PARTICIPANTS

Over the past year there have been many changes in airline policies and procedures. We can expect many more changes. In the past, if you were unable to make the trip or missed your flight, you were able to get a total or partial refund, or voucher for your airline tickets. This may no longer be true. Some airlines are eliminating all reimbursement for missed flights. The decision to refund is subject to the policies of the specific airline. Each airline sets its own policy. There is no standard airline industry policy. Neither KSC or its travel agents can direct reimbursement.

Be Sure to READ the KSC Trip Policy. The Policy printed in the 2001-2002 Directory is no longer current. The current Policy can be found on the KSC web page (see link below).  Your trip leader can also provide you with a current copy.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
**********************************

All air carriers are modifying or enforcing their current non-refundable ticket policies as well check-in luggage policies.

NON-REFUNDABLE TICKETS

*Changes to non-refundable tickets must be completed prior to travel

*If changes to non-refundable tickets are not made on or before the ticketed departure date, the ticket loses all value.

 CHECK-IN LUGGAGE

*Each traveler is entitled to 2 pieces of checked luggage. A ski bag and a boot bag are still considered 1 item. The ski bag and boot bag combination must total less than 70 pounds.  The boot bag cannot exceed 40 pounds or 62 linear inches (length + width + height).  If the boot bag exceeds 40 pounds or 62 linear inches, it will be considered as a separate luggage item.

*Airlines will accept checked baggage items weighting between 70 & 100 pounds.  However, an excess weight charge will apply.
